Love Birds

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

Every morning we’d hold hands
Sit by the window and watch the birds
Sipping on coffee to rid the sleepyness
Listening to the same familiar chirps

Two love birds, everyday, same time
Would sit on the branch closest to the window
We’d watch them for hours
But they may have come to watch us too

Years have passed, as have the birds
We haven’t a clue as to why they’ve gone
But years after their last visit
My one and only true love has also passed on

The doctors have no clue of what happened
She died in the night without a sign
I woke up that morning
With her peaceful hand still in mine

Now, out there on that tree
The love birds return to their branch
They looked at me, then for my partner
But in their eyes they know she won’t be back

One flew away after my love was gone
No longer the two of us, or two birds
Although one of them still visits me
The one my late true love called hers

Homeless Romantic

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

An old Italian man sits aside a New York City street
Commotion all around him but he can only hear his heartbeat
He counts each thump to see how many he has left
He ignores all the new people that just yesterday he met

He’s forgotten their names but not their faces
On a worn out notebook, an old lady’s hair he traces
Long and smooth, just like he remembered her
Her light hair wasn’t grey, he knew it as silver

It seems like he hasn’t seen her in so very long
His angel, his wife, but just yesterday she passed on
His new found friends offer him their sympathy
Condolences mean nothing when you’ve lost something so heavenly

Five decades ago he sworn his life to his wife and romance
Thats how much time it seemed his walk home had passed
He walks into their house, the first time he’s been there alone
He looks at their pictures and says to himself “Without her, I have no home”

Arrowheads Shaped Like Hearts (The Loneliness of Cupid)

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

A match maker, I’ve been called
A world of problems have I solved
I shiver as I reach in my quiver of darts
To shape these arrowheads into hearts

I’m always shooting with perfect aim
Another arrow to the heart, its all the same
I hide my shaking hands in the softest of gloves
So nerves won’t bother me on this mission of love

Another couple come together and its getting old
A million years I’ve been aiming at souls
Love in motion is a grand thing to see
But love is a notion, at least it is to me

A trillion and two lovers I’ve made
But no one has ever called my name
Like a message in a bottle in the sea
I realize I’m as lonely as lonely can be

This is my job, one I took eons ago
Leaving me this way was one thing I didn’t know
A single tear runs down, a tear for loneliness
But I’m Cupid, and I’m at love’s service

A Busker’s Love Story

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

Mornings to days, day after day
The people change but streets stay the same
Hundreds of faces pass by
As I play my lonesome lullaby

A few coins get placed
Gently, into my empty guitar case
They like the sounds they hear
But they never stick around to listen to the tear

Off of a subway train
A lady waits near watching the rain
I continue my serenade
To a faceless girl with no name

“Who do you play for, and why?”
She asks as I clear my throat for a reply
I look to the lady who waits with lips that glisten
“I play for anyone, and everyone who’ll listen”

“But does anyone know your story?”
“I play for them, but the tale is for me”
The rain soaks through her sweater’s wool
“I love your playing, its really beautiful”

I smile at her appreciation
As she slowly turns and leaves the subway station
One face out of hundreds this morning
Who really cared to listen to a busker’s love story

The Naif

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

The words are so wonderful coming from your mouth
And the dreams of our future never seem to run out
We’ll be here forever as wind and seasons leave
Thats at least what you led me to believe

I couldn’t believe you could give me anymore
Your voice: a songbird, but that was before
Before the lies, before the sleepless nights
Before you left and walked out on my life

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not broken hearted
I haven’t a heart, you took it when we parted
You left my hopes, dreams and my future with you
And all thats left is an endless search for truth

This search will carry on until my dying day
Where they’ll bury me with memories of when you went away
I’ll have such a hard time ever trusting anew
But next time I trust, it’ll be with someone so much better than you

Kiss in the Rain (Thunder and Lightning)

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

You came here after the rain clouds crept in
Turning the bright beautiful day into one much darker
I saw your image walking towards me in the lightning
And I could still hear your heart beat over the thunder

I stepped outside to welcome you in somewhere dryer
You grabbed my hand and pulled me out with you
The rain has made your bleach blonde hair shades darker
And it sticks across your face as you move

Your clothes are soaked but I’ve never seen you happier
Like a new lease on life you spin looking up, with water on your face
I stop you, but not to end your youthful fun and dancing
But I stop you just for a second to share an embrace

As a child these are the days I hoped would never come
Sunny days and dry weather was the only thing I’d ever life for
But as I look into your eyes with rain trickling off your chin
These stormy nights are the ones I’ve learned to love so much more

74th Cleopatra

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

I want to know how you do it
How you wrap every memory in gold
I know its different in your world
Where love will never die and hearts won’t grow old

How could I describe you
I’d figure Nubian goddess would be an insult
You’re something far beyond
An encyclopedia of geniuses couldn’t find a fault

I’d tear up the Mona Lisa
Before touching you, in fear of soiling your beauty
A series of breath taking sights
Your otherworldly eyes, and skin, a sun kissed majesty

With your blinding crown of gems
Glitz and glamour and its all fit for you
You’re the end of a lineage of beauty
Perfection through genetics coming to an absolute

The Greatest Lover of Our Time

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

If you want me to be funny
Then I will make you laugh
If you want to come first
I can make everyone else last

When you are running blind and hopelessly lost
I can be your safe home
Safe from the devils controlling your life
And those uncertainties that won’t leave you alone

When you need to vent your emotions
I can be a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on
No matter how mundane the subject of discussion is
You will always have my undivided attention

I’ll do my best to be the greatest lover of our time
Or I can be your best friend if you just need to chat
And the only thing I’ll ever ask of you
Is to give me some of the same love back

Sing To Me

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

Keep me warm and I’ll close my eyes
Free from fear and wonders of life
Such an unexplainable feeling I get
You rid me of my pain and lonliness
You’ll be there when the sun comes up
Anything from you has been more than enough
This notion that sends my heart reeling
Show me the reason why I have this feeling

Its freezing out today this bitter cold I felt
But one gentle touch from you could make me melt
And your kiss sends the summer wind flying
I can’t equal your influence despite my trying
So beautiful both inside and out
On the rainiest day your smile clears all clouds
Tell me what you need and any wish I’ll grant
I’d do anything just for the chance

I’m holding on to the memories
Keepsakes which I’ve never been more happy
Watching your silhouette going out of view
I’ll only ask one thing from you
Sing to me those words of sweet lullaby
Answer me so i won’t wonder why
Lift me up with those divine terms that shine above
Please show me the meaning of that word called love

The Only Lonely Valentine

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2008

In a sweet, quiet, and lovely home
An elderly gentleman stares at a picture of his wife
A normal grandmother is what the world sees
To him, she was the most beautiful thing to walk in his life

He’s shed too many tears over this woman
Now he can only bring himself to whisper her name
She passed away just months ago
Since, not a single morning has been the same

Her voice sings inside his head
As he can see her face in the clouds
And every night he dreams of her
In his sleep he says “I love you” out loud

He knows someday he’ll join her again
But for now, nothing moves slower than time
He knows there are others like him
But on this day he can’t help but feel like the only lonely valentine
